Cops: Man fired BB gun at motorists on Northern State Parkway
A New Cassel man faces weapons charges after police said he fired a BB gun at other motorists from inside his car on Friday.
Nassau County police said Hakiem Francis, 20, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. Friday in the driveway of his home on Urban Avenue.
Authorities said Francis was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima east on the Northern State Parkway when he began firing shots at other drivers. Francis started in Queens and was driving toward Nassau County on the parkway, police said.
Officers recovered the BB gun as well as a loaded handgun from Francis’ car, police said.
Francis has been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
Francis’ attorney, Robert Gregory Madey Jr., of Mineola, said by phone Saturday that his client pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
“The charges are a little bit wild,” said Madey Jr. “The allegations . . . there was a report of someone shooting a bb gun at cars on the parkway . . . how they get to him, I don’t know at this point?”
The attorney said Francis has no criminal record and lives with his parents.
Bail was set at $10,000 bond or $7,500 cash at his arraignment, according to online court records and the defense attorney.
Madey Jr. said his client would post bail.
