Two teenagers face charges after one pointed a BB gun at other students at a Franklin Square high school on April 2, Nassau County police said.

Officers responded to Valley Stream North High School on Herman Avenue to the 8:25 a.m. incident and found two male students, ages 14 and 17, with a black BB gun. An investigation found that the 17-year-old had pointed the gun at two students, police said.

Both teens were placed into custody without incident.

The 14-year-old is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Family Court on April 16, police said.

The 17-year-old is charged with second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon on school grounds, police said.

Neither teen was identified because of their ages.

Superintendent Wayne Loper and principal Robin Small addressed the incident in a letter to the school community on April 2 noting that the students will be disciplined and that the district takes “situations like this very seriously.”

When the administration was made aware of the BB gun, the school notified police and it was confiscated by school officials, the letter said. The students’ parents were also contacted, it said.

“It is important to note that all students are safe and based on both the district and police investigations of the incident, at no point were students at any risk of harm or danger,” they said.
