Bellport teen charged with robbing delivery drivers, displaying handgun
A 17-year-old Bellport resident faces multiple felony charges after he allegedly robbed five delivery drivers throughout Suffolk County over the span of two months, Suffolk police said.
Between Feb. 22 and April 13, the teen allegedly called restaurants to order food deliveries at different locations in Bellport, Patchogue and Shirley on five occasions. Once the driver arrived at the delivery address, the teen would take cash and cellphones from them before fleeing the scene, police said.
The teen displayed what appeared to be a handgun during four of the robberies, police said.
Police arrested the teen in Bellport on Tuesday; he will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
According to police, he is charged with first-degree robbery for the following incidents:
- On Feb. 22 around 8:05 p.m., a pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Brushwood Drive in Shirley.
- On Feb. 25 around 9 p.m., a Chinese food delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Montauk Highway in Bellport.
- On March 1, around 8:23 p.m., a pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Doane Avenue in Bellport.
- On March 7, around 10 p.m., a pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Terry Street in Patchogue.
In addition, on Sunday around 8:25 p.m., a pizza delivery driver was robbed while delivering to a home on Michigan Avenue in Bellport. The teen is charged with second-degree robbery for that incident, police said.
He is also charged with third-degree grand larceny in connection with the alleged theft of a motor vehicle in the parking lot of a Medford shopping center on Feb. 2, police said.
Citing the suspect's age, police didn't release his name Wednesday.
Detectives ask anyone with information on any of these incidents to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
