Bicyclist struck and killed in Lake Success, Nassau police say
A bicyclist from Great Neck died Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle in Lake Success, Nassau County police said.
David Schlichting, 66, had been traveling east on the Long Island Expressway service road just after 9 a.m. between Exits 33 and 34 near Great Neck South High School on Sunday, police said. While traveling, Schlichting was struck by an unknown driver operating a minivan. The driver did not stop.
Schlichting, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bicycle and suffered severe head trauma.
First responders transported Schlichting to a nearby hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead.
