A 13-year-old boy from Amityville has died from injuries he suffered when a car struck him Saturday night in Copiague while he rode a bicycle, Suffolk County police said.

The victim, Jose Luis Calderon, was riding a bicycle about 9:20 p.m. on Dixon Avenue near the intersection of Caboto Avenue according to police.

He swerved into another lane and was struck by a 2008 Toyota Corolla, police said.

Calderon was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition. In a release sent late Sunday night, police said that the boy succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured and the vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
