Motorcyclist hit boy, 11, in West Babylon, Suffolk police say
A motorcyclist accused of hitting an 11-year-old boy in West Babylon Sunday was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment after investigators reviewed surveillance footage of the collision provided by the child's mother, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Dylan Besser, 19, of West Babylon, had initially been issued tickets for vehicle and traffic law violations related to insurance and registration following the collision, which occurred on Bond Street at about 6:10 p.m. Sunday.
But the endangerment charge was added Monday after police said the mother of the child contacted the First Precinct and supplied investigators with the surveillance footage. Besser was issued a field appearance ticket returnable to court at a later date.
Police did not say what the footage showed that prompted them to charge Besser.
Police said Besser and the child had been taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Besser was still hospitalized Tuesday but it was unclear if he was still hospitalized Wednesday.
Police did not detail the injuries the boy sustained or release the identities of either the mother or child.
Besser's attorney, George Duncan, could not be reached for comment.
