A Lynbrook man was arrested in a weekend gas station burglary after the station’s owner recognized the suspect on surveillance video as “a regular customer,” police said Tuesday.

Joseph Monaco, 30, of Earl Avenue, is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead on a charge of third-degree burglary, police said.

Nassau County police said Monaco was arrested at his home Monday in the burglary at a BP gas station on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook at about 6:10 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Monaco “pried open” the front door of the gas station market, entered the store and stole $30 worth of cigarettes and $150 worth of New York Lottery scratch-off tickets before fleeing.

Police said the station owner reviewed surveillance video after the burglary and recognized Monaco as “a regular customer.”
