Bronx woman faces Leandra’s Law charge, Nassau cops say

A Bronx woman was arrested and charged under Leandra’s Law after police said she was driving drunk with her four children in the car.
Nassau County police said they stopped a 2015 Dodge Journey that was traveling without headlights at 3:20 a.m. on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow. Officers said they determined the car’s driver, Lesley Ramos, 33, of Tinton Avenue, was intoxicated.
Ramos’ four children were in the car at the time, police said. Her sons, ages 1, 6, 7, and 14, were not injured, police said, and were released to a family member at the scene.
Leandra’s Law makes it a felony to drive drunk with a child under age 16 in the car, even on the first offense.
Police charged Ramos with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 15, four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.
Ramos is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
