A Central Islip man sitting in a car in his driveway late Saturday was shot and killed by a passenger who fled on foot, the Suffolk County Police Department said Sunday.

The victim was identified by the police Sunday afternoon in a news release as Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo, 40.

The shooting occurred at 11:52 p.m., according to the release, which had no additional information about the person who opened fire.

Suffolk police officers had responded to a call reporting a man shot outside a home on Anne Lane in Central Islip, said Kevin Beyrer, commanding officer of Suffolk's homicide section.

Beyrer said police believe a person known to the victim "shot him for unknown reasons."

Godinez-Carcamo later was pronounced dead after being transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, the release said.

No arrests have been made; police are investigating, Beyrer said.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS, according to the release.
