3 stole money orders from U.S. Postal Service, cops say

Three men were arrested after stealing money orders from the U.S. Postal Service, part of an investigation that began in Maryland, authorities said Wednesday.

Money orders were stolen in December from the inventory at a U.S. Postal Service location in Baltimore, Nassau police said, and a joint investigation with the Maryland postal inspector led to banks on Long Island.

Funds from the money orders were withdrawn that same month from TD Bank and Capital One branch in Rockville Centre and also a Capital One branch in Baldwin, police said.

The banks reported a total loss of $12,000, police said.

Authorities on March 24 arrested two Brooklyn men, Bryant Felder, 27, and Tyrie Barnes, 28, both of St. Johns Place. On Wednesday, they arrested Joseph Singleton, 23, of Queens Avenue in Elmont.

Felder was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned on two counts of third-degree grand larceny and 10 counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Barnes was also released on his own recognizance after being arraigned on third-degree grand larceny and five counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

Singleton was arraigned Wednesday on five counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument. He was held pending a bail of $2,500 cash or $1,000 bond.

All three were represented by Legal Aid, which has a policy of not commenting on cases.
