Police identified the driver as Daniel Patterson, 21, of Massapequa, and said he was charged with DWAI/drugs. Initially, police said Patterson had been charged with driving while intoxicated.
The crash occurred on Hicksville Road at Chicago Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Police said Patterson was not injured, but said the force of the crash toppled the pole and briefly knocked out power in the area. Arraignment information was not immediately available.
