Nassau County police have arrested a man who they say drove while intoxicated and crashed his vehicle with children inside Friday evening.

Police have charged Matthew Giblin, 51, of Lloyd Harbor, with aggravated driving while intoxicated, also known as Leandra’s Law. Police say they received a 911 call from three 13-year-old girls on the side of Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway near Exit 10 in Plainview.

The girls told the responding officers that Giblin struck a concrete barrier while they were inside the vehicle. When he pulled over on the shoulder of the expressway, the girls exited the vehicle and Giblin drove away, a news release said.

Police found Giblin at his home on Lloyd Lane and arrested him without incident. The girls were released into the custody of a relative, police said.

Giblin also faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, second-degree reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He was to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
