Another Dunkin’ Donuts shop robbed at knifepoint, cops say

A robbery Tuesday of an East Meadow Dunkin’ Donuts by a knife-wielding masked man is among five in a pattern dating to March 1, Nassau County police said.
Major Case Bureau detectives believe Tuesday’s robbery of the doughnut shop at 2675 N. Jerusalem Rd. at about 9:45 p.m. is the fifth since March 1, when another Dunkin’ Donuts in New Hyde Park was targeted.
Police on Sunday released a sketch of the suspect.
A department spokesman Wednesday said detectives don’t believe the most recent spree is related to a string of 20 similar robberies dating to 2015.
From Feb. 9, 2015, to mid-January of this year, a hooded, knife-wielding man, usually hiding behind a ski mask or scarf, robbed at least 21 small businesses — mostly gas stations and convenience stores.
Those robberies occurred in seven Nassau communities, including 13 in Valley Stream, police said in January.
Last Thursday, a police spokesman said detectives were studying the string of robberies that began in 2015 and those this month to see if they were related; Det. Vincent Garcia said Wednesday police have concluded they are not.
Those most recent spree include Dunkin’ Donuts shops in New Hyde Park on March 1 and in Plainview on March 2 and March 14, plus an Old Bethpage 7-Eleven on March 17, police said.
Tuesday’s robbery netted the suspect an unspecified amount of cash, police said.
He entered the Dunkin’ Donuts, took out a large kitchen knife and demanded that an employee open the register, police said.
He removed the register drawer and ran off east on North Jerusalem Road and was seen heading north on Vernon Avenue, according to a news release.
Two employees were in the store at the time; neither was injured.
The suspect is described as about 6 feet tall and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, jeans, gray or tan sneakers, a mask, sunglasses and gloves.
