A former All-Long Island basketball player was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop at the Holland Tunnel toll plaza in Jersey City and charged with credit card theft, possession of a forged instrument, possession of a forged government document and possession of marijuana, Port Authority police said.

Bolade Akingboye, 25, of West Hempstead, was a second-team All-Long Island player at Uniondale High School in 2010.

His arraignment details were not immediately available.

A Port Authority spokesman said Akingboye was arrested after a traffic stop in the New York-bound toll plaza at about 6 p.m. He was a passenger in the vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger, which was stopped after police “detected an odor of burning marijuana” emanating from the car as it sat in the toll lane. The driver, identified only as a 24-year-old man from Hempstead, was issued a summons for failure to exhibit a valid insurance card. Akingboye was arrested and taken to the Hudson County jail.

Akingboye told officers that the car “belonged to his mother” — but could not produce any identification, the Port Authority said. Police said he also told officers there was “a marijuana ‘roach’ in the car.” The remains of that burned cigarette were found in the center console, police said.

A search of the car then led to the discovery of six bank credit cards and four passports — all in different names — a check for $13,103 and $8,000 in cash, police said.

Police said Akingboye told them the cards belonged to friends, but he couldn’t name them all. He was then arrested, police said.

As a 6-foot-4 senior at Uniondale, Akingboye’s team won the Nassau County championship over Baldwin, and Akingboye was named to the All-Long Island team selected by Newsday.
