A Medford man was charged with vehicular manslaughter after a fatal three-vehicle crash in Massapequa, the Nassau County police said.
Brian Romero Guy August, 19, also faces assault and driving while intoxicated charges in connection with the crash about 9 p.m. Saturday on Sunrise Highway at Unqua Road, police said.
August was behind the wheel of a 2023 Bentley SUV heading east and stopped in the highway's left-turn lane when he "decided to turn right and cross all lanes of traffic on Sunrise Highway," the Nassau police said in a news release.
The Bentley collided with a Polaris Slingshot 3-wheeled motorcycle traveling east in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway, according to police. The motorcycle then collided with a Kia SUV stopped at a traffic light on northbound Unqua Road, police said.
Willie Singleton, 48, of Bay Shore, the driver of the Slingshot, and his female passenger, 47, were seriously injured and transported to a hospital, where the Singleton was pronounced dead. The passenger was listed in serious condition Sunday, police said.
The six occupants of the Kia — a man, woman and four young children — were not hurt in the crash, police said.
August and his male passenger, 30, suffered minor injuries, police said. August pleaded not guilty Sunday in Nassau Court, according to court records.
Bail was set at $500,000 cash, $1.25 million insured, or $2 million partially secured surety bond, records show.
His defense attorney, Michael A. Arbeit, declined to comment late Sunday when reached by Newsday.
August's next court date is set for Tuesday, records show.
