Deer Park man gets 21 years in prison for wife's killing
A Deer Park man was sentenced by a Suffolk County judge Friday to 21 years in prison for the November 2020 fatal shooting of his wife, prosecutors said.
Paul Bonny, 35, pleaded guilty in April to a second-degree murder charge before Judge John Collins, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Bonny and his wife, Cathiana, also 35, argued outside their home on Eastwood Avenue in Deer Park at about 8:50 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2020, when, prosecutors said, he shot her three times before turning the gun on himself.
The couple’s two daughters, then 6 and 12, were inside a vehicle in the driveway of the home at the time of the shooting, Suffolk police said at the time. The two girls were not injured, police said then.
Cathiana Bonny was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead.
Paul Bonny was hospitalized following the shooting and charged on Nov. 22, 2020.
“Due to his own outrageously selfish conduct, this defendant deprived his two children of their own mother by killing her in front of them,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said in a statement. “Now, he will have to live with the consequences of those actions by spending a significant jail sentence in a place where he can no longer endanger his family or the community.”
