Police have arrested a West Babylon man who they allege intentionally ran over and killed a Wyandanch man and fled the scene after a fight outside a Lindenhurst bar early Saturday morning.

Suffolk County police arrested Shatik Canady, 41, and charged him with first-degree manslaughter for the incident that left Kawon Williams, 28, dead.

Canady and Williams were involved in a fight shortly before 5 a.m. in the rear parking lot of Brewhaus Pub on Wellwood Avenue, and after the fight, Canady intentionally ran over Williams and fled, police said in news releases.

Canady was remanded Sunday at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, court records show. He was represented by the Suffolk Legal Aid Society. His case was adjourned until Thursday.

Williams was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.

Distraught family members of Williams spoke to News 12 Long Island on Saturday, saying the father affectionately known as Kay-Kay and Magic loved dancing.

“This guy just hit him, just hit him and left him for dead in the street like a dog,” Williams' mother, Mary Merchant, said. “And now my son, he’s 28 years old, his life is over, is over.”

His wife, Asa Williams, spoke through tears. “How do you tell a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old that they’re never going to see their dad again?” she said to News 12.

Neisa Jordan, a godsister, said she was with Kawon Williams at the time and tried to revive him. “It didn’t work, he was gone,” she told News 12. “I did as much as I can do.”

His relatives also spoke to News 12 outside court on Sunday, where Merchant called Canady a "coward."

Detectives asked anyone with information to call, anonymously, the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.
