Two brothers were arrested Friday during a vehicle stop by Nassau County police detectives after one of the men shot at another man during an argument behind a row of businesses on South Main Street in Freeport, police said.

Larry Williams, 56, of Stevens Street, was at the rear of 73 S. Main St. when he pulled out a handgun and fired two shots in broad daylight, missing his 57-year-old target, police said in a news release.

The victim then ran into the building after the altercation just after noon, police said.

Detectives located Williams, who was riding in a vehicle driven by his younger brother, Robert Williams, 54. The two, who live at the same address, both had heroin on them, police said.

At their home, two handguns, including a stolen one, were recovered, police said.

He is expected to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Robert Williams has been charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two traffic infractions, including failure to stop at a stop sign and an improper turn/failure to signal, police said. He was released on a desk appearance ticket due April 11 in First District Court.
