Cops: Setauket girl, 13, finds razor blade in Halloween candy
Suffolk County police are warning parents to inspect their children’s Halloween candy after a 13-year-old Setauket trick-or-treater found a razor blade in a candy bar Thursday night.
Police said the girl had been trading sweets with other students from Paul J. Gelinas Junior High School that they had collected Monday in Setauket and Stony Brook.
The girl opened a 3 Musketeers mini candy bar about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and found a blade embedded in the chocolate nougat, according to Suffolk police. She told her parents, who notified law enforcement.
Police are asking parents to monitor their children when they open candy gotten from trick-or-treating, especially in the Stony Brook and Setauket area.
Anyone with information can call the Suffolk County Police Department's Sixth Precinct at 631-854-8626 or 800-220-TIPS.
