Nassau police identify man killed in Hempstead shooting
Nassau County police on Saturday identified the man who was fatally shot Friday in Hempstead.
Police said Demetrius Winfield, 30, of Hempstead, was one of two men who were shot about 11 a.m. Friday on Wellesley Street.
Winfield was shot multiple times in the torso and was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said. The other man, whom police have not identified, was shot three times and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
The shooting is still under investigation, police said Saturday. Police did not provide an update on the other shooting victim's condition.
Authorities are seeking at least one person in connection with the shooting, Nassau Police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said Friday.
Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477 or 911. Callers will remain anonymous.
