Man gunned down, teen shot in Hempstead, Nassau police say
A Hempstead man was killed at his home and a teenager was wounded in a double shooting early Thursday morning, authorities said.
Damien Pinckney, 37, was shot once in the chest about 4:10 a.m. at his Lawson Street home and taken to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where he was pronounced dead just before 6 a.m., Hempstead and Nassau police said.
The other victim, who also lives at the house, was a 19-year-old shot in the arm, police said. He was treated at a hospital and released, police said.
The shooter has not been found, police said, and homicide detectives did not release details on circumstances leading up to the gunfire.
Investigators Thursday evening were trying to obtain a search warrant for the house, Hempstead police said.
The victims’ relatives could not be immediately reached Thursday night.
Nassau police said a caller had reported the sound of gunfire near Lawson Street and Pierson Avenue.
Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
