Big Lots in Hicksville burglarized by homeless man, cops say
A homeless man has been charged with burglarizing a Big Lots store in Hicksville on Friday morning, Nassau County police said.
Mauricio Galo, 57, was seen leaving the back of the store at 275 South Broadway shortly after 6 a.m., police said in a news release.
He had a screwdriver that, police said, he used to pry open a back door. Police said they also found a box of screws and a window crank in his backpack that were taken from the store.
Galo was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
He pleaded not guilty Friday in First District Court in Hempstead and held on bail of $5,000 cash or bond. He was ordered to return for a hearing Tuesday.
