Thieves steal 8 vehicles from Inwood used car dealership
Thieves stole eight cars from an Inwood used car dealership Friday in a well-orchestrated heist that left detectives with few clues, according to Nassau County police and the business owner.
The thieves cut the locks to the yard at Affordable Transport Inc. on Burnside Avenue around 6:30 Friday night, police say. They pried open the door to the dealership and ransacked the office, taking equipment and the keys to a 2002 red Jaguar, a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, a Cadillac Escalade and a Chrysler minivan, among other vehicles, according to the owner, Marino Sannuti.
“They broke in, they cut the alarm, they stole the computers, they stole the DVR recorder for the camera, and they found the lock box with the keys and they stole the cars,” Sannuti told Newsday.
Nassau police said they have no description of the thieves.
“It’s crazy how all those cars go missing,” said Sannuti, who has run the dealership for 25 years. “We think they’ll be around somewhere. We’re going to do some surveillance and see what we find.”
He said this is the first time his auto lot has seen this big a hit since Superstorm Sandy wiped out his inventory.
He said that he was going to go out Sunday looking for anyone driving his cars around.
“I’m hoping to find out who did this,” Sannuti said.
Anyone with information about the car theft can call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS or 911. All callers will remain anonymous.
