Michelle McIntosh, of Farmingdale, charged with trying to steal $9,000 from Texas man in lottery scam
A Farmingdale woman will be arraigned Friday after police said she instructed a 72-year-old Texas man to send her $9,000 in a fake lottery scheme.
Nassau County police said Michelle McIntosh, 40, contacted the man and told him he had won the lottery, according to an investigation by the United States Post Office Investigations Unit.
She instructed the man to mail a fee of $9,000 in cash to collect his winnings, with which he complied.
But when McIntosh arrived at the Hicksville Post Office Thursday to retrieve the package containing the cash the man had sent, police took her into custody without incident.
McIntosh is charged with third-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
She will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead.
The postal service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
