A male was struck in the head with a gun Wednesday night in Amityville, Suffolk County police said.

The incident happened at 9:45 p.m. on Benjamin Avenue, a dead-end street just a hundred feet or so west of the border with Copiague.

Photos from the scene show the street blocked off by Suffolk patrol units and responding officers searching the area with a canine team.

Police said the victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip. His condition is currently unknown.

The First Squad is investigating.
