Man admits choking, punching EMT

A man who was walking drunk through traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge and choked and punched a female EMT who came to his aid last November pleaded guilty to reckless assault Wednesday in Manhattan.

Michael Jaccarino, 30, who worked in the Brooklyn district attorney's office, was sentenced to 10 days community service and 6 months of alcohol treatment. He is due in court April 16 to show proof of compliance.

Jaccarino, who is already in alcohol treatment, remains on "indefinite suspension without pay," city prosecutors said. His attorney, Gary Farrell, told the court he was sure that Jaccarino will lose his job as a result.

Many emergency medical technicians wanted a stiffer sentence, but Manhattan ADA Sherita Walton told the court that Jaccarino was so intoxicated early Nov. 10, "it would be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he acted intentionally," to sustain any felony charges.
