A man seen climbing a fence at a Uniondale fence company faces charges of burglary and grand larceny, Nassau County police said Tuesday.

Officers responding to a call for a suspicious person at V&O Montalvan Fence Corp., 891 Nassau Rd., at about 10:30 p.m. Monday found Jerry Yarbrough, 50, of Webb Avenue in Hempstead, exiting a rear yard of the business, police said.

An emergency caller said a suspicious person was climbing a fence there, and police investigating said that Yarbrough was responsible for taking tools from that yard and also from another yard at Valle Signs & Awnings at 889 Nassau Rd.; the overall worth of the tools is more than $5,500, according to a news release.

Police said Yarbrough is responsible for the following thefts:

  • At about 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 23 and again at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 12, the theft of tools worth more than $2,800 from Montalvan Fence.
  • At about 1 a.m. on Oct. 13, the theft of more than $800 worth of tools from Valle Signs.
  • And between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Monday, multiple thefts of tools worth more than $2,000 from a garage and vehicles at Valle Signs.

Yarbrough is charged with third-degree burglary, three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, petty larceny, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
