Michael McFarland charged in North Babylon car break-ins, cops say
A North Babylon man was arrested Monday in connection with a string of car break-ins in his hamlet, authorities said.
Michael McFarland, 22, of Bluebell Lane, was charged with four counts of grand larceny, two counts of criminal possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of marijuana.
He’s alleged to have committed a series of larcenies from vehicles parked in front of residences on Central Avenue, Ventura Drive and Cherubina Lane.
He was apprehended after a caller reported a suspicious man trying to open doors of parked vehicles on Central Avenue.
Police said McFarland was found inside a BMW parked in the driveway of a residence on Cherubina Lane. They said he had with him a backpack containing stolen wallets, credit cards, computers and GPS devices.
None of the vehicles was damaged.
Detectives said residents should not leave valuables in their vehicles. They said car owners should lock all vehicle doors.
Detectives ask anyone with information to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
