Police investigators at Kirk Park in Montauk on Thursday, where a man was found unconscious, then pronounced dead at a hospital. Credit: Doug Kuntz

The death of a man found unconscious with head injuries in a Montauk park on Thursday morning was being investigated as a suspected homicide, police said.

The victim, who had not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

East Hampton Town police, responding to a call from a parkgoer, found the man in Kirk Park about 7:30 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

The Suffolk County medical examiner was to determine cause of death. Detectives believe it to be criminal in nature, police said.
