Daniel J. Barberis, 40, left, and Daniel P. Bosco, 40, both of North Massapequa, were arrested Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, and charged with possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument, Nassau County police said. Bosco also faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, they said.

Nassau County police officers responding Tuesday to a call about two boys throwing rocks at cars in a North Massapequa parking lot found their father preparing to shoot up heroin, police said Wednesday.

The father, Daniel P. Bosco, 40, was sitting in the front passenger seat of a parked red 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan with the door open and Daniel J. Barberis, also 40, was injecting him with heroin through a hypodermic needle in the right foot, police said.

A woman whose car was hit by a rock called police, said Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun, a police department spokesman.

Both men were arrested at 12:57 p.m. on drug charges and the boys, ages 6 and 8, were taken from the scene, a vacant lot on North Broadway and North Hickory Street, and released to family, police said.

“Hopefully they don’t understand or recollect much of the incident,” said LeBrun.

Bosco and Barberis, described by police as friends, are both from North Massapequa, and each is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument.

Bosco also faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Bosco was given a $2,500 bond or $1,500 cash bail at his arraignment Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead, according to online court records. Barberis’ bond was set at $1,000 or $500 cash.
