Community councils to help pick NYPD precincts' top cop

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday said that community councils will play a role in the selection of NYPD 77 precinct commanders. The panels will interview three to five candidates for the commander jobs and pass along recommendations to NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea, who will make a final selection, de Blasio said.
