A known Latin Kings gang member from Freeport resisted arrest and fought with police officers who were called to settle a disturbance at a gas station in Westbury on Wednesday, Nassau County police said.

Juan Taveras Jr., 33, was “eventually subdued and handcuffed” at the Speedway Gas Station at 880 Old Country Rd. about 6:30 p.m., police said in a news release Thursday.

He and the officers all were taken to a hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries, according to the police.

Taveras was charged with two counts of second-degree felony assault and misdemeanors for resisting arrest and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
