New York State Police announced they arrested the man they allege abandoned Roxi the mastiff on the side of the Southern State Parkway last month.

On Thursday, troopers arrested Glenroy J. Bramble, 65, on charges of abandonment of an animal, a misdemeanor, and failing to provide appropriate shelter for a dog, a violation, state police said in a news release.

Attorney information for Bramble and his hometown were not immediately available Friday evening.

At about 5:30 a.m. July 1, state troopers responded to calls of a dog abandoned on the side of the parkway near Exit 21 in Uniondale. Police found Roxi, a 4-year-old female English mastiff, tied by her leash to a light pole, along the westbound side of the roadway. Police also spotted a bowl filled with food and a handwritten note describing the pup’s condition and requesting she receive “good care.”

Ray Quinones previously told Newsday he spotted Roxi on his way to work, pulled over, notified police and approached the dog. The Bay Shore resident said Roxi was “yelping for help” and appeared “happy when I approached her”

Police delivered Roxi to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter later that morning. Once Long Islanders heard her story, adoption applications came roaring in, Newsday previously reported.

During a press conference last month, Hempstead Town Supervisor Donald X. Clavin Jr. said the town “received over 50 phone calls from as far as California and Washington, and right here in Wantagh. People are recognizing this dog needs a loving home.”

After only a few weeks at the shelter, Roxi found her forever home in Aquebogue: She is with John Reeve, 70, and his wife, Sandy Reeve, 68, who own the J & S Reeve Cottages, a vacation rental agency with plenty of pet-friendly land.

Sandy Reeve previously told Newsday that being chosen as Roxi’s puppy parents "brought tears to our eyes.”

Bramble was issued appearance tickets and is due to appear at Nassau County District Court on Aug. 19.
