A Bay Shore man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder for shooting his ex-girlfriend in the chest during a fit of jealous rage last year, Suffolk prosecutors said.

Sammie Darby, 22, went to the woman's Bay Shore apartment complex on Nov. 30, 2021, and found her in the parking lot with another man, prosecutors said.

An argument began, Darby took out a 9-mm handgun and “fired a round into the victim’s chest,” prosecutors said in a release.

“Darby then pulled the victim into his car, driven by a friend, and took the victim to the hospital where he left her at the check-in area to receive the necessary life-saving treatment for her injuries," the release said.

“At a time where domestic and gun violence are so prevalent, this defendant’s plea sends a clear message that Suffolk County will tolerate neither," District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said.

Darby’s sentencing is set for Jan. 17. His attorney, Carl Irace, was not immediately available Friday.
