East Meadow man charged after stabbing wife, baby, documents allege
An East Meadow man who allegedly stabbed his wife and 18-month-old daughter last month and then slashed his own throat was charged Sunday with two counts of attempted murder and endangering the welfare of a child, court documents show.
Christopher Alvarado, 37, lunged at the girl with a knife during the March 27 incident at his Cooper Drive home, according to court documents. He then allegedly stabbed his 38-year-old wife multiple times in the face, neck and chest when she came to the baby’s aid.
Nassau Judge Andrea Phoenix ordered Alvarado held without bail during an arraignment at Nassau University Medical Center, where the defendant is recovering from his self-inflicted injuries. Police said he is listed in stable condition. Phoenix ordered Alvarado to return to court on April 5.
Alvarado’s attorney, James E. Toner of Mineola, declined to comment on the charges on Sunday.
Police said Alvarado’s wife sustained serious injuries, but is listed in stable condition. She is also recovering from her injuries at NUMC.
The 18-month-old girl suffered a laceration to her right arm that required stitches. She was treated and released to family members, police said.
