Suffolk police: 13-year-old driving stolen car crashes on William Floyd Parkway in Ridge

A 13-year-old boy who was driving a stolen vehicle is facing charges along with his teenage passenger after he crashed and overturned the car on William Floyd Parkway Friday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Around 6:50 a.m., the teen was driving a stolen 2008 Hyundai with a 14-year-old male passenger in Ridge when the car went off the roadway and overturned into a wooded area.
The teens were taken to a hospital for evaluation, but do not have serious injuries, police said.
Both will be charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, police said.
Ashley Geyer, 35, of Middle Island, told Newsday at the scene of the crash that the vehicle belonged to her mother, who had left it running to warm up in the morning.
She said a black car had pulled up to the house and some individuals had hopped out and taken the car. It had been recorded on the home's surveillance camera, she said.
Geyer said she saw emergency vehicles on the move shortly after the theft and followed them, and "I found my mother's vehicle" on the parkway.
When Geyer got to the crash scene "the car was flipped. Lives could have been lost ... it could have been so much more worse."
