A Freeport man found with a loaded assault rifle and driving a stolen SUV that is connected to a Virginia homicide investigation was arrested Friday, Nassau County police said.
Freeport police used an automatic license plate reader to identify a 2001 Chevy Tahoe that had been reported stolen, police said. Tremain Williams, 36, a suspect in the Virginia homicide, was driving the sport utility vehicle about 4:15 p.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue and Wilson Place, authorities said.
Police found a loaded M4 assault rifle in the SUV, which is connected to a Norfolk homicide case, Nassau police said.
Williams, of 96 Maxson Ave., was charged with second and third degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and being a fugitive from justice.
He is set to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
