Two arrested in shooting of ex-boxing champ Adam Willett
Police have arrested two suspects in the shooting of a former U.S. amateur heavyweight boxing champion outside a Long Island shopping center.
Darryl Austin and Rasalaam Jackson were awaiting arraignment on assault charges Wednesday in the April 7 shooting of Adam Willett.
A message left for Jackson’s attorney was not immediately returned; information on Austin’s lawyer was not immediately available.
Police say Austin was being questioned following a prior weapons possession arrest when he implicated himself and Jackson in Willett’s shooting.
Willett’s former coach, Mike Murphy, said his client has been released from a hospital and is recovering at a relative’s house.
Willett became the U.S. amateur champion in 2006. He was an alternate on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team in Beijing after losing in the trials.
