Suffolk police said Glen Nelson, 48, of Belle Terre, died Sunday after the Lamborghini he was driving crashed into a utility pole Sunday afternoon on East Broadway at High Street in Port Jefferson. Credit: James Carbone

A 48-year-old man driving a Lamborghini Murcielago sports car died Sunday afternoon after crashing into a utility pole in Port Jefferson, also causing a power outage to 15 customers, officials said.

A PSEG spokeswoman said utility workers had restored power to all customers by 6 p.m.

The driver, Glen Nelson, of Belle Terre, was driving east when he struck the Verizon pole on East Broadway at High Street at about 3:40 p.m., Suffolk County police said. There were no other occupants in the car.

Sixth Squad detectives are investigating the crash. Nelson was taken to St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
