THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $10,473,428 budget for 2016-17, a 0.34 percent increase from the current $10,437,479. The tax levy would increase 3.74 percent, from $8,765,056 to $9,092,446.

This increase exceeds the district’s tax-cap limit of 0.16 percent, so the district would need at least 60 percent voter approval of the budget. Taxes on the average single-family home would increase by 2.22 percent, from $1,759 to $1,798.

The budget funds a contractual salary increase for teachers at 1.5 percent and an average step increase of 3 percent. It does not call for any changes in the number of teachers or staff.
