SPENDING $163,026,888, a 2.03 percent increase from the current $159,788,043.

TAX LEVY 2.17 percent increase, from $116,865,160 to $119,405,872. This is equal to the district’s 2.17 percent tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote is required for approval.

TEACHER PAY / PROGRAMS Includes a 1 percent average salary increase and 1.71 average step increase for teachers. A psychologist position would be added at each of the district’s two middle schools. A part-time social worker and an assistant special education chairperson position also would be added.

PROPOSITIONS

Proposition 2 authorizes the district to spend nearly $1.93 million from its capital reserve fund and unencumbered, unexpended capital funds from budgets in earlier years for parking lot, tennis court and track resurfacing and floor and ceiling tile replacement at W.C. Mepham High School; auditorium bathroom renovation and door replacement at Sanford H. Calhoun High School; and door and lock replacement at all district buildings. Approval of the proposition does not affect the tax levy.

CANDIDATES

The district does not hold its own school board elections. The boards of education in the four component elementary school districts — Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and North Merrick — each appoint two trustees to the Bellmore-Merrick Central district board.
