THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $17,930,820 budget for 2016-17, a 5.85 percent increase from the current $16,940,218. The tax levy would increase by 8.52 percent, from $12,698,498 to $13,780,531.

This increase exceeds the district’s tax-cap limit of 0.77 percent, so the district would need at least 60 percent voter approval of the budget.

The district said it could not provide estimates for school taxes on the average single-family home because it did not have necessary assessment information.

The proposed budget includes a salary increase of 2 percent and a step increase of 2.75 percent for teachers.

The district also plans to restore several key instructional and support staff positions that were cut in previous years.
