Merrick school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Norman J. Levy Lakeside School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $48,109,405 budget for 2016-17, a 2.55 percent increase from the current $46,911,578. The tax levy would rise 0.44 percent, from $37,898,872 to $38,066,359.
This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. The district did not provide an amount for school taxes on the average single-family house for 2016-17 or the current year, or the percentage-point difference.
The proposed budget includes a 2 percent contractual increase for teachers and no step increase.
