LI school, police investigate social media threat

Roosevelt High School is on lockdown Thursday for a second straight day as district officials and Nassau County police investigate a "disturbing social media post" made Wednesday against the school, school officials said.
The threat was "non-credible," according to a notice Thursday on the school district's website. The high school was put on lockdown Wednesday morning, with no one other than students and staff allowed to enter the building, and remained so Thursday, school officials confirmed.
A Nassau County Police Department spokesman said Thursday that there are no updates on the incident.
Superintendent Marnie Hazelton, in a statement Wednesday that was sent to parents and posted on the website, said that "a disturbing social media post indicating a threat toward Roosevelt High School was brought to the attention of our staff. District officials took immediate action and notified law enforcement."
"We strongly believe that the children are completely safe as staff and police are monitoring the building and the surrounding area very closely," Hazelton said in the statement.
The police department is providing additional security support, the superintendent wrote.
The high school enrolls about 1,000 students in grades nine through 12, according to the state Education Department.
Although the school is on lockdown, all after-school activities Thursday will proceed on schedule, school officials confirmed.
