Sayville school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Suffolk County Community College’s Sayville Downtown Center, 30 Greene Ave.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $90,119,477 budget for 2016-17, a 0.8 percent increase from the current $89,405,025. The tax levy would fall 0.8 percent, from $58,688,645 to $58,221,199.
The levy decrease is beneath the district’s -0.64 percent tax cap, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. School taxes on the average single-family house would decrease 0.8 percent, from $7,621 to $7,560.
The proposed budget includes an estimated 1 percent contractual increase in teacher salaries and a 2.3 percent step increase, subject to negotiations. It funds an increase in the number of Advanced Placement courses at the high school and adds a districtwide special education teacher position.
