Unprecedented tie in North Bellmore school board race
Something rare happened during Tuesday's school votes -- a tie in a school board race.
It left North Bellmore district officials in a quandary about what to do when candidates JoAnn DeLauter and Frank LaMagra each got 799 votes.
DeLauter, president of the North Bellmore school board, is also a trustee on the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District board.
"I think we will have a runoff," said Mark Schissler, assistant superintendent, who said he would seek guidance from the state Wednesday.
Michelle Gagnon, administrative assistant for curriculum and coordinator of public relations at the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School, said the situation was unprecedented.
"It's never happened before," Gagnon said.
