A fiery tractor-trailer crash Monday morning closed the eastbound Long Island Expressway at Exit 62, Blue Point Road, in Holtsville at 6:45 a.m., Suffolk County police said.
It was not immediately clear how long the road will remain closed.
Police said the accident involved a tractor-trailer truck and another truck and that the vehicles caught fire after the crash. Suffolk fire officials said one of the trucks involved carried lumber – and said that could impact how quickly the fire can be brought under control and be extinguished. Volunteer firefighters from Medford and Yaphank are on the scene battling the blaze, officials said.
Fire officials said two people were injured in the crash and ambulance crews have been requested. The extent of those injuries was not immediately known. The crash occurred just west of Exit 63, officials said.
Additional details were not known.
