When Dana Clanton started working the night shift at the U.S. Postal Service's Bethpage Processing & Distribution Center in 2019, she never expected to find love.

But while most of Long Island slept, she and co-worker Nicholas Bryant found themselves drawing closer — albeit slowly.

At first, Bryant said, “I didn’t have the guts to talk to her, but I always found a way to kind of make my way over to the section she was working in."

About a year after they met, Bryant, 30, asked Clanton on a date: pizza and "Parks and Recreation" after work at his Bethpage home.

“The first time he laughed, I had immediate butterflies in my stomach,” said Clanton, who was living in Ronkonkoma at the time. “In that moment, I knew this relationship was definitely going somewhere.”

Clanton, 30, has dealt with chronic medical issues for much of her life.

“The way Nicholas takes care of me is something that I had never experienced before. ... Any time I have a doctor's appointment, he’s always there waiting for me, always there to give me a hug after," she said. "That’s really special to me.”

Bryant proposed on Sept. 25, 2022, by surprising Clanton with a Lego Disney World castle that he built.

After appreciating the castle for a moment, Bryant got down on one knee and asked Clanton to marry him. He gave her a custom wooden wedding band — the engagement ring of her dreams, she said.

“It was better than I could have ever expected,” Clanton said. “I was in tears.”

The two, who now live in Plainview, married on Sept. 8 at the gazebo at Oyster Bay's Town Hall North in front of immediate family. The next day, they hosted a 40-person reception at The Main Event in Farmingdale.

Their cake topper said, “Better Together,” a reference to a song by country music star Luke Combs. Guests were given carved wooden name plates and s’mores, which the couple prepared the night before.

“We wanted to make sure that we just were surrounded by the most important people in our lives,” Bryant said. “It was perfect for us. We got to decide every little detail.”
