I Do!: Danielle Wilcox and Andrew Delio of Smithtown

As young adults, life took Danielle Wilcox and Andrew Delio in different directions — but through it all, they remained committed to each other.

High school sweethearts, they said they started dating in 2013, when Wilcox was a senior at Smithtown High School West and Delio was a junior at Chaminade High School in Mineola. Wilcox headed to SUNY New Paltz and, the following year, Delio started at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Despite the roughly 300 miles separating them, they decided to “let’s just see where it goes . . . and it just kinda never ended,” Wilcox, now 29, said.

At least once a month through their college years, Wilcox said they would take two buses to visit each other, spending a full weekend together.

Then after college, Wilcox, studying for her master’s degree in speech pathology at LIU Post in Brookville, returned to Long Island. Delio, an investment banker, moved to Manhattan, where he lived with friends.

They stayed together, taking the train every weekend to visit each other. This continued for about four years.

Then on July 23, 2022 — “probably one of the hottest days,” Delio, now 27, said — the couple had spent the day at wineries out east and were heading to dinner when Delio said he suggested they stop in Long Beach for a walk.

“I was not happy. I was so hot,” Wilcox jokingly said.

But at the beach, she found Champagne, flowers and a photographer waiting for them. And in a semi-secluded part of the beach, Delio proposed.

The couple wed on July 22, 2023. They said they love to host their friends from the city at their Smithtown home, plan to adopt a dog and eventually start a family.

But right now, Delio said, “We’re just enjoying life, just us!”
