Jeanne Knudsen, of Ridge, has received the Outstanding High School Social Studies Teacher Award from the Long Island Council for Social Studies. Knudsen is a social studies teacher at Longwood High School in Middle Island, where she has taught global studies and economics since 2003. She is facilitator of the school’s Best Buddies chapter and a member of the Longwood Central School District Board of Education’s legislative and safety committees. She is also a summer scholar for the National Endowment for the Humanities, a member of the Teacher Advisory Council for the National Constitution Center and an alumnus of the White House History Teacher Institute.
